Giving up an argument
Question
Asssalamoalaikum
-I recently read in the book “interpretations of the meaning of the noble Quran” Darussalam publications…
that Abu Umamah narrated: Allah’s messenger Mohammed Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said” I guarantee a home in paradise for a person who gives up the argument and disputes even if he is on the truth” This hadith is quoted by Abu Dawud, At Tirmidhi, An Nasai and Ibn Majah…..
I want to file a court case against my former employer in Bangladesh(a Muslim by name) as I feel he terminated me without notice and did not return my personal belongings. Please guide me if I should go ahead with my case in light of the above hadith…
Thanks.
Answer
If you feel you have been wronged and dealt with unjustly, then you are totally within your rights to go ahead with the court case. You will not be sinful or acting contrary to the Prophetic teachings for doing so. If however, you feel that the issue is not that important, and you prefer to just let the issue pass placing your trust in this hadith of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and give him peace) then insha Allah you will be rewarded for doing so.
